My Vintage Weekend in Rye

I recently spent the weekend in Rye. I absolutely love this little town, and if you love historic places, beautiful old buildings and quaint little shops & restaurants, you need to pay a visit. For me, Rye sings out vintage. It makes me feel happy walking around the cobbled streets in my vintage dresses, especially if the sun is shining (we were lucky on that count!).

We literally spent the whole weekend strolling around the little streets, taking photos, looking at beautiful buildings, and of course popping into vintage shops. I love the antique shops in Rye, as you can find some real bargains and some stunning pieces. If you head to the Quayside area, there are some really lovely ones including Halcyon Days, where you will find gems from brocante finds through to stunning painted furniture. I think my favourite is Cosy Dot Company tucked away down the cutest of passage ways, a gorgeous little shop with low ceilings, tiny winding staircases and full of the most beautiful brocante and antiques. I get so much inspiration from places like this and just look around imagining it in my home or using the pieces for vintage wedding styling. I obviously picked up a few bits that are perfect for my ever-expanding prop cupboard, and these will be added to my hireables soon.

As well as antique shopping, we strolled up the famous Mermaid Street, visited Rye castle and just gazed over all the pretty houses and churches. And of course, we had to sample the gins at The George in Rye and had the most wonderful meals at Webbe's at The Fish Cafe and Tuscan Kitchen Rye.

At the end of the weekend I had to have an ice cream in the sun and buy these stunning blooms from Calla & Co, how beautiful is this hydrangea and eucalyptus against the painted old wall? Times like this give me so many ideas for my wedding styling; the sun, the antiques and the flowers - so much vintage wedding inspo right there.

I feel inspired and relaxed when I visit towns like Rye. From browsing vintage and antique shops for wedding props or the old buildings that have such history, wondering about all the people that have lived there and the stories the walls could tell. For me the two combined - vintage shops and quaint, traditional buildings, coupled with all the stunning flowers that are out at the moment, influence me and help with my general mindset, and I definitely felt a lot more relaxed. Because we all need a break and to just wander and take in, don't we!?
