4 Years Later, Our Romantic Vintage Wedding

What better day to share with you my wedding photos than on my wedding anniversary!? Yep, happy 4 years to us, and time really does fly - I can't believe it, it only feels like 1-2 years ago! We had the most beautiful day, it was personal, romantic and fun - everything I believe a wedding should be. Our guests still talk about it, and what more can you ask for!? Looking through these photos for this post makes me feel so happy. I hope you'll get some inspiration from them for your big day, or just enjoy the pics!

It is so important to choose suppliers who you like and get on with, and who put you at ease (like I will if you work with me!). The first thing you will do is have your hair & make-up done, so make sure you choose someone who will make you relax on your big day. I was so lucky to have the gorgeous Natasha Valerie Make-Up do my make-up, and she really is so lovely, put me at ease and made me laugh. She understood that I wanted to look like a refined version of myself (cough!) and I was so pleased with my make-up. I still gush about my hair now! Andrea from Mitchell and Millyard literally gave me dream hair that stayed perfect all day. I wanted a loose 1930s feel, and I wore a stunning handmade pearl headband made by the very talented Gillian Million that looked like little gypsophila! It fitted in perfectly with the style I was going for, with my relaxed 1930s vintage dress and handmade veil.

I'm first to admit that I'm a little bit of a control freak and love to be organised. So my wedding planning was military, with most things booked 1.5 years before the big day and an excel spreadsheet that Bill Gates would be proud of. But this gave me time to focus on the details, craft some decor and plan how we could make the wedding really personal and fun for all of the guests. I believe every wedding should be personal to that couple. Yes, take inspiration from Pinterest, blogs and magazines, but think about the two of you as a couple and what you love, and the rest will come easy.

The style of our wedding evolved as the planning went on, however from the very beginning I knew I wanted my love of vintage to play a big part in the design of the day, but I wanted to steer away from the then current new trend of mismatched and rustic. This is where my love of vintage lace began, and the more refined and elegant vintage wedding styling that I am known for at Vintage Amy. I wanted a neutral colour palette with pops of pale pastels, and we were really keen to give the day a laid-back and informal feel, to allow our guests to have fun and relax. And all Pete's requirements were to have his children play a special part, so his daughter Daisy was a special bridesmaid and his son Alfie was his Best Man (he was 7 and did a speech!). Oh and he also wanted a fancy suit made (it cost more than my vintage dress!). So there was no real theme, but I like to think it was typically English with a romantic vintage style, with touches of 1930s. You don't need to be able to define your day in two words, go with how you want your day to feel and look, and I'm sure you'll find that it will all come together perfectly.

We fell in love with Pashley Manor Gardens, and no other venues compared, so we decided we'd push ourselves to get our dream venue. This and the food were our big costs, as Pete & I love food and we wanted it to be tasty and special. The talented Food Glorious Food gave us the most scrumptious food. These were our two big costs, so everything else needed to be as reasonable as possible. We designed the invites and all the stationery ourselves, as I am lucky enough to have a talented hubby who could design my vision. Poor hubby (or fiance then!) was put under pressure though, so looking back maybe we took on too much and now I know so many talented suppliers I would advise handing things like this over to experience stationers, who know what they're doing and can take something off of your to-do list, creating beautiful and bespoke designs.

We made anything we could ourselves and even did some of the flowers ourselves (just loosely placed in vases) alongside our very talented florist The Flower House Mayfield, who created the bouquets, buttonholes, hair flowers and cake flowers, and supplied the flowers for the vases. I cried when I saw them, she had captured what I asked for exactly. If you follow me on Instagram you will know how much I love flowers, and I wanted these to be a real focal point and to capture all my favourites in pale pastels to add an oomph within the neutral decor.

I crafted a lot of the decor, such as signs, straws, lace doily bunting, the guest book, etc., and doing this made me realise how much I love a good craft session. I even made the personalised hangers that I gave my bridesmaids for their dresses (which were bought in the sale from Warehouse) and made a personalised memory photo book as a thank you gift. There was nothing I couldn't craft! Although I was keen to craft the right things in the right way, to ensure I was keeping the look elegant and romantic. I now apply this to all my wedding styling, be crafty with the right things and apply my creativity to know what will work together. This has evolved to allow me to work with other creative and talented suppliers, to collaborate together to build a whole wedding that doesn't scrimp on style and I can rely on experienced suppliers to create such items as the stationery, flowers, cake, etc., allowing us all to create a perfect day for the couple that looks professional and has real attention to detail.

Would I do things differently, yes but only slightly as I loved so much about our big day. Being a wedding stylist has given me more attention to detail than ever before, and I'd spend a bit more money on certain things that I thought I could get away with being budget, but were budget for a reason. I'd apply more precision and I'd make it more refined, and I wish I'd kept all the lace!

So there you have it, my perfect vintage style wedding day. We honestly had the best day ever, I let go of the details for the day and just relaxed and enjoyed myself. I want to allow you to have the same - have the best day ever and not focus on the details, as you are enjoying yourself too much. Therefore let me and my contacts create your dream vintage wedding day and focus on those details so you don't have to. I can work with you from the very beginning to work out how you want your day to look and feel, we will encapsulate it and cherish it, and make all those little details a beautiful styling reality.

I would love to know what you think about my vintage wedding day? Is it similar to how yours will be / was? Or what kind of look are you going for? Get in touch here for all your vintage styling and hiring needs.
