I'm so sorry it's been a couple of weeks since my last post - time is running away with me at the moment! But today I'd love to chat to you about my love of heirlooms and how I love to use them within my wedding design and styling.

Firstly, what is an heirloom? An heirloom is a valuable object that has belonged to a family for several generations. Hopefully, it has been treasured and loved and adored, and even better if it is in excellent condition! The pieces I choose to use within my wedding styling are always classical, they have an elegant feel and they have clearly been loved by others. Some are even heirloom pieces from my own family. Why do I love heirlooms? Because they have a story, they are well made and often have wonderful details - such as the wooden carving on a chaise longue or the beautiful brass on a cocktail trolley. They bring something special to my wedding styling and bring the wedding venue to life.

I'd love to show you how I love to use my precious heirlooms within my wedding design and styling, creating a classical, romantic and timeless feel for my couples' big day...

You will see one common theme from all of the pieces above - the detailing. I absolutely love older, heirloom pieces, antiques with stunning detail and character. Like the carved details on the pink armchair or the little cherubs on the brass tray. Most of the pieces I use are in good condition, or they may have a little wear and tear that adds to their character.

My favourite thing to do with these pieces is to use them with classic styling, soft touches and within venues that have character and history, such as loft spaces and stately homes. I like to use a lot of flowers, textures from beautiful materials and add touches like finely tapered candles. I concentrate on the detail and by really getting to know my couples, I like to include their personalities and wishes. Creating a wow wedding for my couple and their wedding guests is top of my agenda.

As well as using heirloom furniture, I also love to incorporate delicate heirloom pieces within the detailing of my wedding styling. From antique champagne saucers, to ornate brass trays and vintage perfume bottles. Concentrating on the detail is a big part of the wedding design for me, from planning it all out in my wedding design brief and moodboards, sourcing all of the pieces throughout my planning and then creating the design on the day, dressing the wedding venue to ensure my bride and groom are blown away by how their wedding day looks.

The look I long to create for my couples is timeless. I want my couples to have a wedding design that will not date, they will cherish it in years to come, as there won't be featured trends within the design that will date. There will be classical and elegant styling, allowing for a soft and romantic feel to the day.

Heirloom pieces such as vintage and antique chairs, sofas, stools, tables and dressing tables can be a perfect addition to your wedding. Think outside the box in how they can be used - ie. a stool as a cake table, a dessert dressing table or create a lovely lounge area with a vintage sofa, chair and rug. Remember to think about the pieces you are using - opt for pieces with character, that are older heirloom pieces and that have clean lines and delicate details. Think of your whole design when working out how to incorporate these pieces, or work with a stylist who will know how to really bring these items to life and to work for you as a couple on your wedding day.

So what do you think of my heirloom pieces? Do you plan to use beautiful vintage and antique pieces at your wedding? If you do, they will be sure to make it stand out, add character and charm and create talking points for your guests.
