A Simple Summer Tablescape

The Timeless Stylist-A Simple Summer Tablescape-Wedding Table Styling UK

Sometimes all you need is simple. When you have beautiful items to style with and use at your dinner party or for your wedding styling, such as stunning cut glass, carefully chosen table linen, calligraphy menus and place cards, plus perfectly picked flowers, you don't need to over-complicate it. So this week I am sharing a table I styled with a summer dinner party in mind, although it would also be lovely for a more simple, laid-back wedding. Let me show you what I created...

My starting point for this tablescape was the blue plates. They are by Denby and when I saw them I knew they would be perfect for a dinner party, as the powder blue is just so pretty and provides a great canvas for the rest of the details. I wanted to keep everything from that point really simple, and stick to tones of gentle blues and whites.

I love using my cut glass items within my wedding styling, and I wanted to use a fair few of them here to keep the look clean and paired back. Cut glass brings simple elegance, and by choosing the right pieces it can really elevate your table styling. The pieces I used were my vintage vases, glassware and candlesticks also, from my wedding hiring collection here.

I love the blue tones that I captured on this tablescape. The gentle blue linen tablecloth is by Silk & Purl and I teamed this with pure white vintage napkins, gently tucked underneath the plates to give a relaxed and informal style. The look was kept very clean with white tones continued in the candles and also on the beautiful stationery by Mango Tree London, with a gentle off-white background and beautiful blue calligraphy text and ribbons.

The final element was the flowers, which I also chose to keep simple. Showing that you do not need to always have elaborate creations. With a table like this you can pair back the amount of flowers you use, and I picked these stunning delphiniums in the prettiest blue, along with one of my favourites - white ranunculus. If you wanted this look on a grander scale for your wedding, you could think about adding a floral installation above your heads perhaps, or use wider floral table arrangements.

I often think less is more. When it comes to styling your wedding, be it the tables or the larger scale items, you do not have to always go completely over the top to achieve a breathtaking look. Sometimes it's best to take a step back and really concentrate on the finer details. You need to give beautiful items room to shine. And I think the same can be applied for dinner parties. Create beautiful details for your guests to be wowed by.

When you are styling your dinner party or wedding tables, have a think about this and also remember that the caterer (or you if you are catering your own dinner party!) will come along and plonk a number of their items on the table too, like wine and salt & pepper, etc. Think about how busy it could look for your guests and consider pairing back on some of the original items you considered. Also a top tip of mine is to get your photographer to take a photo before the caterer has put their items on the table.

What do you think of my simple summer tablescape? Inspiration for your dinner party or a more relaxed wedding set-up. I just love the gentle blue and white tones and find them very calming. By adding the cut glass, your eye instantly draws to the details and I have created a relaxed feel, but still with a touch of elegance. You could also add an additional colour into this if you wanted to, perhaps a very soft pink.

All of the photos in this post were captured by very lovely and very talented Claire Graham Photography, who is a Fine Art wedding and lifestyle photographer. If you have any comments or questions on any of this, or perhaps want to chat weddings or styling with me, I'd love to hear from you. You can drop me a line here. Have a lovely, sunny rest of your week.
