Back in October I took part in a styled wedding shoot amongst an abundance of beautiful flowers in a stunning rural setting in the Kent countryside. Jennifer Pinder is an incredible florist, specialising in using seasonal flowers and creates the most amazing wedding flowers and runs workshops for florists. When she asked me to come along to one of her workshops and help create a styled wedding shoot using the stunning floristry work that would be created, I jumped at the chance. Want to take a peek at what we created…?
The shoot was designed to create inspiration for an elopement wedding, or a more laid-back outside wedding with the flowers as a real focal point. We kept everything very raw and chose to take a simple approach to the styling, with the flowers saying it all really. All the photos were captured by the incredible wedding photographer, Maryanne Weddings.
The wedding tablescape was kept simple. With flowers like this, there is no point adding multiple items to your wedding tables that distract the wedding guests’ eyes. The centrepieces created by the florists needed to sing, and so by adding delicate styling details, such as contrasting candles in pretty glass holders, vintage cutlery in a simple style and more modern ironstone plates, we allowed the flowers to be the focal point.
We sat all of this pretty décor on a traditional linen tablecloth and sat the table outside in the elements, to show how you how pretty it would be to utilise the outside space for your wedding reception. If you get nice weather on your wedding day in the UK, make the most of it and style those spaces also, and perhaps move the reception outside, wedding venue permitting.
The florists that took part in the workshop created such stunning wedding bouquets and floral installations, so we wanted their look of the bride and groom to be kept simple and paired back. So outfits were chosen with this in mind and this beautiful linen dress that the bride is wearing is from Son de Flor, which was teamed with Doc Martins. The overall look is simple yet graceful. The look for the groom was also kept laid back, but with a modern twist. And the hair & make-up that Laura Anne Hair & Makeup created was kept really natural and care-free.
The installations that the florists created are so stunning, aren’t they? I really do think the flowers make such a difference to the styling of your wedding and by adding gorgeous installations you are adding a wow factor and a unique detail that will be original to your wedding, and of course an all-important element to get your wedding guests talking – really important. When thinking about your wedding styling, do not forget about the flowers and really make them a key part to the design of your day.
The wedding stationery we used was from Elmo Paperstories, which just worked perfectly with the overall concept of the shoot. Elmo Paperstories supply stunning stationery for your wedding day that is made from luxury materials with exquisite and simple detailing. They can provide the whole stationery suite, from wedding invitations through to all of those all important on-the-day details. It's a nice idea to use the same stationery supplier for your wedding stationery from the very beginning, so the overall look & design of your wedding day remains consistent. As a wedding stylist, I can help you choose your wedding stationery to work with the design and styling of you day.
The stunning calligraphy in these pieces with the soft colours and exquisite textures just brought the whole design of the styling together, and would you look at these wedding vow books? I am a big fan of velvet, and using it on your wedding day can create a real luxe effect to the design and styling of your day.
We all had such a lovely day in the Kent countryside and were so lucky with the weather. What do you think of the beautiful images that were captured? Are you planning to have an outdoor element on your wedding day? I thoroughly recommend to not forget about the styling of the outdoor parts, you can create some beautiful areas for your wedding guests. Just don't plan the whole thing outside without a Plan B!
