Hello and welcome back! Today I wanted to share with you some inspiration for an elegant Autumnal wedding. Autumn is beautiful, and it is a wonderful time of the year for a wedding, with its trees turning colour, pretty late afternoon light, an abundance of nature and it is when we all get a bit more cosy with additional layers. I believe a gentle nod towards the current season is the way to go with elegant wedding design and styling.
Designing and styling an elegant and romantic wedding in the Autumn is so much more than brown and beige. There is an abundance of beautiful colours and textures you can bring into the wedding design to create warmth and detail, for an overall more richer feel than wedding styling in the warmer months. Below you will see some examples of this and explanations behind what I created within this editorial shoot with gentle Autumnal touches.
This is part 1, and next week I will share some more of this beautiful elegant Autumnal wedding inspiration with you all…
As I briefly mentioned above, the trick with creating a timelessly designed wedding is to apply gentle nods towards the season, along with other clever yet delicate touches - such as using old and new combined, using softer tones of colours and never heavily following a trend. So by using some of the Autumn tones combined with a softer palette, and elegant, Antique and heirloom pieces, the overall effect is not too over the top and will never date.
Some may say never to combine red with pink, but I think it really works here to create depth and a touch of drama against the softer details. By occasionally using a pop of a deeper red within the flowers and ribbons, and even on the bride with her lipstick, you have a really beautiful feel combined with the dusky pinks and some creams for softness. I love how the shades work together and create a beautiful look to this elegant wedding design and styling.
The wedding gown I chose had beautiful, long lace sleeves, a gentle touch in the changing season. I personally think this is stunning anytime of the year, but certainly lends itself towards the cooler months. Other ways to add contrast to the wedding design in Autumn is to use velvet, for an instantly rich and decadent feel. We used velvet within the ribbons on the bouquet, in the groom’s suit and also on the wedding tables, which you will see in part 2.
The flowers are the easiest way to bring in the season, and I tend to choose to work with seasonal based florists, who use blooms that are local and in season. You could choose this too for your wedding planning, and with the flowers you and your florist choose you add as much of the season in as you wish. For example, with the colours here and using turning leaves and pampas grass, it is immediately obvious that this is an Autumn wedding.
Initiate the feeling of your elegant wedding design and styling from the beginning through the invitations that you send your guests. Set the scene as soon as possible, which is why it is vital to really go into detail with the wedding design and planning as soon as you can. If you’re not sure how to do this, take a look at my design and inspiration package here. Try to use the same stationer for all of your wedding stationery, for design consistency.
The overall look I have created here is soft, elegant and romantic. By adding gentle seasonal touches in the colours, textures, flowers and clothes you keep the timeless feel and it does not become too ‘themey’. By paying close attention to your wedding design and all of the details throughout your wedding planning, plus the suppliers you choose, you can also create a consistently designed and well thought-out day with lots of delicate details.
